Description

These Witch Hat Cupcakes are the ultimate Halloween treat—fun, whimsical, and delicious. Topped with edible chocolate witch hats, colorful frosting, and spooky sprinkles, they’re perfect for parties, kids’ baking, or festive dessert tables.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cupcakes:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil

For the Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • Food coloring (purple, green, or orange recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Witch Hats:

  • Chocolate sugar cones (1 per cupcake)
  • Chocolate cookies (Oreos or fudge rounds)
  • Melted chocolate (for sealing and coating)
  • Sprinkles or decorative bands (licorice, fondant, etc.)
  • Optional: Edible glitter or Halloween candy

Instructions

  1. Bake the Cupcakes: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with liners. Mix dry ingredients in one bowl and wet ingredients in another. Combine, fill liners ¾ full, and bake 18–20 minutes. Cool completely.
  2. Prepare the Frosting: Beat butter until fluffy. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and cream. Mix until smooth and colorful. Transfer to piping bag.
  3. Make the Witch Hats: Coat sugar cones in melted chocolate. Attach each cone to a cookie with chocolate “glue.” Add bands or sprinkles for decoration. Let set.
  4. Decorate the Cupcakes: Pipe frosting onto cooled cupcakes. Top each with a witch hat. Add sprinkles, candy eyes, or glitter for flair.

Notes

  • Use gel-based food coloring for vibrant frosting.
  • Chill frosting if too soft before piping.
  • Hats hold up overnight if stored cool and dry.
  • For advance prep: bake cupcakes and prep hats a day ahead, assemble before serving.
  • Variations: make cauldron cupcakes or add candy eyeballs for spooky fun.
